Rafael Sangiovanni

My name is Rafael Sangiovanni. I was born in the Dominican Republic and I started photography at the age of 16 when my parents bought me a Canon F-1 with a 55mm 1.2. They also bought me darkroom equipment, with which I spent many hours developing and printing in black & white.

I search for the beauty in nature and I try to capture it to the best of my abilities. I am a photographer that has learned to shoot pictures as I have taken them. I have never taken a photography class, though I have read a few books. I know the basic rules of photography now, but I love to break them. I love some pictures centered and other ones not, and my philosophy is that if I like what I have captured, that is good enough for me. It is really nice when people who are around you, and sometimes people that you don't know, like your work, but in my opinion what's most important is your personal satisfaction. So shoot whatever impresses you, in whichever angle you like, centered or not. It is your memory of a scene that is going to be captured. Capture it so that it pleases you. Capture it how you saw it and show it to the world.

Photography has been my passion since I was 16 years old. Any scene, landscape, building or tree etc, looks the same when we all look at it, but the way that I perceive it, may be different than yours and because of that I I have been able, and still am, to capture the beauty around me, even in places where nobody cares to look at. I find beauty all around me and with my skills and inspiration, I am able to freeze in time forever, moments that will never be seeing the same way ever again.

I have a gift in my life and I want to share it with the world. I have never studied photography as a profession; I use my instincts and abilities to photograph the world that I live in and that I have the honor of being part of. And God has blessed me with these skills that allows me to create pleasant beauty of what I find around me.

I want to thank my wife Evelyn, my kids Raph, Pascy & Gabi for their unconditional support throughout the years and to my parents for guiding me in life, also my sisters and friends for their support as well

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy the pictures on my website as much as I enjoyed taking them and sharing them with the world.
